DISCUSSION:
There are things in life that are consecrated unto God and should never be used for anything contrary. Some of such things were the golden vessels in the temple of God in Jerusalem. These items were consecrated as holy unto the lord and were only used by the priests and the high priests in the worship of God. Asa, king of Judah knew this and ensured these items were duly sanctified unto the service of God. 1Kgs.15.15; "And he brought in the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which himself had dedicated, into the house of the LORD, silver, and gold, and vessels." However, when the devil mounted pressure on King ASA, he compromised terribly. When he was faced with war against king Baasha of the superior military might of Israel, he took the same vessels consecrated to the worship of God and offered them to King Benhadad of Syria to solicit his help. 1Kgs.15:17-19; "… then Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house, and delivered them …to Benhadad... king of Syria”. The bible says in Prov20:25; "It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry." It is a trap to eat that which is holy. It is a trap to offer to devils what you have given to God. King Asa learnt this the hard way. Yes, his foolish offering to King Benhadad solved the present pressing problem, but it created a far worse future problem. King Asa got sick of a foot disease that wouldn't heal. This disease led him to his untimely death. It's never a good idea to turn away from your commitment to holy living. The writer of Ecclesiastes says it this way; Eccl.5:4-5; "When you tell God you'll do something, do it--now. God takes no pleasure in foolish gabble. Vow it, then do it. Far better not to vow in the first place than to vow and not pay up." MSB. Your body, for example, has been consecrated to God because it belongs to God (1Cor 6:15-20, Rom 12:1). If you take that same body and give it to sexual immorality, you have done a foolish thing and the consequences could be very grave. Desist from desecrating holy things from now on. Keep holy things holy, and this includes your body and your service to God. Shalom Uvracha!
