DISCUSSION:
Digging ditches in a dry and barren land must have been a very hard task especially for a people who were already weak from thirst. Divine instructions are often required in order to manage divine interventions. Divine instructions also often come camouflaged as hard work. A quote from Charles Spurgeon; "Act not on the mere strength of what you have, but in expectation of that which you have asked.” Therefore, you don't wait until you get the miracle, before you get ready. You don't wait until harvest comes, before you enlarge your habitation. Faith is the action you take in expectation of harvest. (See Isaiah 54:2-3). The breaking forth comes after the preparation.
A direct exhortation to you today; are you ready for the answers to your prayers? Are you ready to receive what you prayed about? The truth is that many people prayed but never entered into their harvest because they weren't prepared when it came. This is a serious matter. If you ask God for rain, then faith would be to go out with an umbrella else you'll be drenched. People ask for a financial breakthrough without building a structure to adequately manage the breakthrough when it comes. If you asked for a baby, then start preparing baby clothes for the coming baby. The kings of Israel, Judah and Edom asked God for His interventions in their current predicament; their soldiers and animals were weak from thirst. No water on their path. Elisha the man of God spoke by the spirit of God; 2Kgs.3.16-17; "...thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches. For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts." Did you notice his instruction? Although a flood of water was coming by the hand of God, yet they were to dig ditches in that dry valley in order to hold as much water as they wanted. The miracles of God often come with such instructions. They usually contain information about what God will do and instructions on what you are to do. When God performs what He promised to do, but you ignored the instructions given to you, your miracle will be short-lived or will have less impact than it should have had.
Therefore, in your prayer for divine intervention, also pay attention to the divine instructions that come. Shalom Uvracha!
