“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”
John.14.12
Discussion
Jesus did mighty works when he walked this earth in physical flesh. He preached the good news of God's kingdom, healed the sick, cast out devils, cleansed lepers and raised the dead. But before he was crucified, He revealed that His disciples would do these same mighty works and more. If you are born again and live according to His words, then you are his disciple too (John.8.31). Part of what it means to be Jesus' disciple is that you do the works He did and more. How is this possible? How are we to do this? Jesus gives the secret in the same statement. John.14.12; "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." The reason His disciples would be able to do these mighty works is because Jesus was going to the Father. The reason we are able to do these mighty works is because Jesus went to the Father. Never forget this. It's not because you fast enough, or pray enough, or anything you do on your part. Nothing else empowers us to do mighty works but 'BECAUSE I GO UNTO MY FATHER'. Why is this significant? Because something happened when Jesus went unto the Father. John.16.7; "Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you." See that? His going unto the Father meant that He would send the Holy Spirit to us His disciples. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of almighty power. He is the action giving, power driving force for all mighty works on earth. When the disciples received the Holy Spirit, they received power to do the works Jesus said they would do (Acts.1.8). Have you received the Holy Spirit? Then know this; you have received power to do the mighty works Jesus did when He physically walked the earth. Never forget that the reason you can do these mighty works is because Jesus went unto the Father; sent the Holy Spirit to us. The Holy Spirit is our secret to doing mighty works. Trust Him. Rely on Him. Count on Him. As you take those steps to lay hands on the sick and to rebuke death and devils, know that the Holy Spirit is dependable to bring to pass any healing or miracle needed. Hallelujah!
Confession
The Holy Spirit dwells in me. Therefore, by His power, I do the works Jesus did and greater works He has empowered me to do. Hallelujah!
