“And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.”
1 Sam. 14:6
Discussion
Meditate on this today. Sometimes, we restrain ourselves from making the move we ought to make because we underestimate the power of God available to us. God's power is so powerfully demonstrated in raising Jesus from the dead: Eph.1.19-21; "And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come." On account of this great demonstration of the divine power we are assured that nothing good is withheld from us: Read Rom.8.32. In our opening text, Jonathan and his assistant were faced with a garrison of the Philistines. It was impossible for only 2 men to take on a garrison. What outright audacity of faith! The secret of their faith is revealed in Jonathan's utterance; 1Sam.14:6; "...for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few." In other words, the number of soldiers in your army is no advantage nor disadvantage to God. True to Jonathan's faith, the Lord wreaked havoc in the camp of the Philistines using just 2 men. 1Sam.14.13-15; "And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armourbearer slew after him. And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were an half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might Plow. And there was trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled, and the earth quaked: so, it was a very great trembling."
What a mighty result, just because 2 men chose to act by faith in God even against all odds! Beloved, whatever you consider to be your advantage or disadvantage is inconsequential to God. He is God all by Himself and has the power to bring things to pass out of nothing. Your faith matters far more than any other thing around you. By faith in God, you can rewrite your experiences even if everyone around you thinks you're incapable of anything great. By faith in God, move forward today! Hallelujah!
