As Pastors, Teachers, Evangelists, Prophets and Apostles, our main goal is to bring the church of Jesus Christ to maturity (Eph 4:11-13). We've been saddled with the responsibility of working with the Holy Spirit in perfecting the Saints until the entire body of Christ is fully grown to the very fullness of the stature of Christ. We achieve this by preaching Christ through the teaching of his word, revealing Him as the sum total of all the Law and the prophets (John 5:39, 46). The Word of God unfolding Christ and his fullness in his church is the machinery for the perfecting of the saints. As good as our dance programs, and comedy programs, and praise programs, and financial Empowerment programs, and deliverance programs are, they do not bring the church to maturity.
Every church leader must keep things in the right perspective. The word of God takes center stage at all times; it is the main event at all fellowship gatherings. Stick to teaching Christ and His Kingdom, not your experiences, not wealth, not enemies! As Leaders we are in it for the Perfecting of the Saints, not the entertainment of the saints. Consequently, for everyone who belongs to a local assembly, you must understand this also, and endeavor to hold your pastors accountable to God’s word in accurately revealing Christ to you.
