SAVED BY HEARING

Verse of the Day

“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.”

1 Tim.4.16

Discussion

There is a lesson here for both the teacher and the hearers. The teacher is to take heed/pay attention/be careful to display Christlike character in all things, private and public. The teacher/preacher is also to take heed/pay attention to/be careful about what he teaches and preaches. It's the Greek word; didaskalia, meaning the function of teaching and the information being passed. It implies the act or process of learning and teaching. A teacher is never to handle the word of God irresponsibly. You cannot say anything you like, anyhow you like, just because you have an audience. Remember, you're going to give account of your words and the ministry that has been divinely committed to you. Take heed how you explain the scriptures. In handling your character and your teaching reverentially, you'll both save yourself and your hearers. You'll save yourself from loss of eternal rewards(1Cor 3:14-15) and you'll save and protect your hearers from errors that could derail their faith. The second lesson is to the hearers and everyone who listens to or submits to a preacher. The scripture tells you that what you're hearing will either save you or destroy you. Your salvation as regards experiencing and maturing in the things of God, will be determined by who you're listening to and what you're listening to. It's not about hearing an exciting message; it's about hearing a message that transforms you further into the very expressions of the living Christ. The saints are to be maturing, not enjoying. Ensure that what you're listening to, is making you stronger in faith and strengthening your love walk. If it's not, do something about that today. Shalom Uvracha!
