SERVANT OR SON

Verse of the Day

A servant cannot be corrected by mere words; though he understands, he will not respond. NIV

Prov 29:19;

Discussion

In God's kingdom, servants differ from sons in several ways, but we'll be looking at just one difference today. The difference is in their response to correction. God's preferred way of correcting, chastising, and instructing us is by His word. When you go wrong, God's word comes to you to correct you (2 Tim. 3:16). When His word comes to correct and chastise you, your response determines if you are a son or a servant. Sons pay attention to God's word and receive His corrections (Prov. 8:32 - NIV). But a servant does not respond to God's word. Rather, he responds to rods of correction. These rods come as adversities and problematic circumstances (Prov. 29:19 - NIV). A servant hears God's word, understands it, but does not respond to it. He'll rather respond to punishments and scourging’s.

The bible shows us that servants and children are both alike in that both need scourging’s before they behave themselves (Prov. 29:15, Gal. 4:1). So, if you find that you're one who often repents and make all kinds of vows to God when terrible situations hit you, then you're operating like a servant or a child. But, if you amend your ways as soon as Gods word points out your errors, then you're functioning as a son, and this pleases God. The grave danger in behaving as a servant or a child is that your heart will eventually get hardened against God's word. Such a person will always need adversities to get them to correct their ways, and even these adversities won't change them because once they're comfortable again, they will drift back into their errors. If you're like this, destruction lies ahead of you (Read Prov.29.1) See the danger? From this day, let the word of God be enough to correct you. Always respond to God's word. Don't be a child or a servant. Be a son.

Shalom Uvracha!

Confession

I am responsive to God's word. I am not a servant or a child. I am a son of God. His Word corrects me, chastises me and instructs me. Hallelujah!

Meditation

Ps.119.67; I used to wander off until you disciplined me; but now I closely follow your word." NLT
