THE EYE OF FAITH

Verse of the Day

And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

Gen.15.5

Discussion

DISCUSSION:

Wikipedia defines the eyes as the organs of the visual system. They provide living organisms with vision. Eyes detect light and convert it into electro-chemical impulses in neurons. Therefore, the eyes are light receivers. They receive light and transmit the signals to the brain for interpretation. This is only one of man's organ of sight. The second organ of sight is the mind. The mind is so powerful that it can influence what the physical eyes can see. It can give a different interpretation to what the physical eyes see. A person who has his physical vision impaired can move around with a mental map of his surroundings. In addition, notice how we can see food, see our family members, see our clothes, etc in our minds. We call it thoughts, but have you noticed how these thoughts could be sometimes so accurate. Just as physical sight can whip up corresponding emotions, so can mental sight. Thus, one can see a scary animal and there would be bodily response of fear, likewise, one can think of a scary animal and the body would have the same response. The body knows no difference between what you see with your physical eyes and what you see with your mental eyes. This is truly powerful. This is why if you think thoughts of sicknesses and diseases, your body will respond in degradation as though you had the infirmities physically. Therefore, think good thoughts and your body will have peace (Phil 4:8). Then there is the third organ of sight given to man. It's the eye of faith. The optical eye receives already existing light from its surrounding. The mental eye thinks or sees according to information already fed to it from its environment. But the uniqueness of the eye of faith for a believer is that it sees only what God's word says. Hallelujah! It creates images only in accordance to God's character, power and the integrity of His word. Jesus sufficiently tells us that the eye of faith is far more superior to the other forms of sight. This is what God was trying to instill in Abraham when he showed him the stars in the sky; "as numerous as the stars are in the sky, believe my word that your descendants shall be great". Abraham believed God. That is faith. Faith believes what God says. It doesn't matter what you see around you with your physical eyes, faith in God's word produces superior results. This is a very good thing. We're never at the mercy of the happenings around us. We're always at the mercy of our faith. Have faith in God, and those mountains will be gone!
