THE PURPOSE OF GOOD DEEDS

Verse of the Day

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Matt.5.16

Discussion

Doing good is always a good idea. But doing good according to God's terms surely is a far better idea. We make a mistake thinking that God has given us the liberty to serve Him any how we choose. We think God wants us to love him each in our own unique way. In addition, we presume that God simply just desires that we do good things and even great things any how we choose. How wrong! You must know that there is a prescribed way to do things in every family. Every organization has its modus operandi. You can't just decide to sell bread in a banking hall, even though selling bread is generally a good thing. You're simply not allowed to do that kind of thing in that environment. You serve God on God's terms, not on your terms. If you would study His word and submit to the teaching of His word, you'd find God's way for you to do His will, then you must align with it. So, when our opening scripture tells us to do good, it shows us why a believer should do good; So that men may see your good works and glorify your Heavenly Father. Therefore, the Believer’s good works are to bring glory to the Heavenly Father. Now, understand that the believer's good works go beyond feeding the hungry and clothing the naked, etc. These are good and should be done, but the believer's good works are more spiritual than physical and they include; preaching the gospel, healing the sick, casting out devils etc. The believer's good works draw men's attention to God's love which was demonstrated in the salvation found only in Christ Jesus. That's what it means to glorify God. Never do any good work to draw glory to yourself or receive the commendation of men. For us, it's all about our Heavenly Father. Whatever we do in the eyes of men, we do it that they may glorify our Heavenly Father. Shalom Uvracha!
