Ticking Bomb

Verse of the Day

For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.

Acts 17:21

Discussion

The bane of the current church in many parts of Africa is the rising trend in godless preaching having little or nothing to do with the focus of Christ and the early apostles. Sermons that promote greed and self-seeking. Yet, the multitudes rejoice over such rhetoric. This is a ticking bomb that's soon to detonate if not quickly defused. Take a look at the number of times the Apostle Paul warns Timothy about the distraction of unprofitable doctrines. 1Tim.1.3; "...that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine." Don't teach any other doctrine different from what Christ and His apostles taught. 1Tim.1.4; "Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith." Don't pay attention to fables, myths and endless ramblings that create more questions than answers and have no power to edify anyone to godly living. 1Tim.1.5; Love is the sum total of the laws, prophets, gospels, history books, the epistles and the apocalyptic books. The love of God revealed in Christ and the love of God lived out through His saints by the Holy Ghost. Whatever message you hear that does not propel you into a greater love walk, isn't the message of the kingdom of God. 1Tim.1.6; Some have turned away from love and have embraced vain janglings. In search of deep mysteries, they have become bereft of love for the saints. Like a sheep to the slaughter, they're slowly isolated from the flock of God in order to be destroyed by the devil. Beware! 1Tim.1.7; "Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm." They desire to be teachers, yet they do not understand what they teach. They're confused because they have mixed the bible with science, psychology, astrology, and other material laden with spiritually unprofitable information. A child of God must stay focused on growing in the knowledge of God in Christ Jesus. To stay focused, you must stay away from such distracting doctrines. 1Tim.4.7; "But refuse and avoid irreverent legends (profane and impure and godless fictions, mere grandmothers' tales) and silly myths, and express your disapproval of them. Train yourself toward godliness (piety), [keeping yourself spiritually fit]." (AMP) Also, in Titus.3.9; "Do not get involved in foolish discussions about spiritual pedigrees...These kinds of things are useless and a waste of time." If we would adhere to these instructions, we would be safe and do well in the kingdom. Why ignore these clear warnings and go in search of forbidden knowledge that'll do you harm? Stay on course and grow in Him. Shalom Uvracha!

Confession

I stay focused on God's word. I refuse to give attention to distracting and destructive doctrines of men.
